BaBel Strings

BaBeL Strings, an intercultural orchestra composed of children and teens from Lucerne’s Basel/Bernstrasse neighborhood, was founded in 2011 and is directed by two young musicians and a teacher specialized in rhythmic.

The project, which is conducted at the St. Karli primary school in Lucerne and is linked to “BaBel” – a neighborhood development project – offers free musical training for string instruments to about thirty children and teens who come from mostly immigrant families.

The Aim

To assist participants in discovering a common language through the acquisition of musical abilities, while developing their sensitivity to others and thus stimulating social and cultural integration.
